Why You Should Consider 3D Printing Over Injection Molding

3D printing has no tooling cost.

  • There are no expensive molds. Molds often take months to be made and are done with expensive machines, expensive labor, expensive engineering and costly materials. You could easily spend several months and tens of thousands of dollars just to get your first part and find out something is wrong with it. And there is always something wrong with the first part because CAD is great, but it is not the real world. With 3d printing you get to skip that entire mold making process and go straight to a formed part. Instead of months sometimes a first prototype can be designed and made in a day.

3D printing can create extremely strong products.

  •  Since there are no molds that 3D printed parts need to release from and the process has different constraints regarding warping than injection molding, 3d printed parts, if designed well, are vastly superior to injection molded parts in strength. Structural components can be fully enclosed, thick and chunky yet light weight (being a honey comb structure inside filled mostly with air), or heavy if you desire.

You don't have to buy huge quantities.

  • Large quantity needs can be parceled out over the year because there is no mold set up costs. Rather than purchase huge quantities you have to store and inventory somewhere to have available when you need it you can instead order a more manageable quantity to be delivered regularly. Furthermore, huge capital investments are not required just to find out your product isn't selling as well as you hoped; thus decreasing your risk.

Costs are less by virtue of being domestic.

  • Since our manufacturing services are here in Utah, you don't have to pay tariffs or international shipping for your products. You'll get them sooner and with less shipping and taxes.

Making changes to your product is a software issue.

  • Since there are no tooling costs, if there is something about your product you want to change, or you'd like to add a variant of your product, all we need to do is make the changes to the 3d model and instantly your new product is ready to be made. Iterating designs have never been so cost effective or so fast!
